Hello future readers!
First off, let me just say how good it feels to receive so much support from my friends and family about the announcement of City of Ghosts. As I mentioned in a Facebook comment, the true test will be to see how many are interested in the second book. At any rate, I appreciate you taking a gamble on my first book.
It is a huge relief to be almost to the point of publishing the book. To be honest, it was much easier to write the first draft than it has been to go through edits, prepare the marketing, and build a web presence for the book. I actually wrote the first draft nearly a year ago. I then immediately sat it aside and went on to the next book. Everything in the production phase has taken more time than expected. I thought I’d be publishing in April, but I’d rather get everything right and late (especially since only I knew my timeline) than wrong and “on time.”
City of Ghosts will be initially available only through Amazon. It will be coming out in trade paperback as well as electronically for Kindle. After the print version comes out, I’m going to work on an audio version (because why not?) I think that will come out this fall. Later this year I’ll see how I’m doing on Amazon and decide whether to expand to other online retail markets (Kobo, iTunes, Google, Barnes and Noble). It is nice to have more exposure, but as a one man operation, that also involves more work. Often that time is better spent writing the next book.
If you haven’t already, please sign up for the newsletter. I’ll be using that to make the first announcement when the book is ready to purchase. For the first 48 hours, I’ll be selling the Kindle version at a super duper friends and family rate. Unfortunately, I have less control over the print version. Also, if you’re a Facebook user consider joining my group. I’ll push out occasional information there. Also, can I say just how awkward and self-conscious I feel creating a Facebook group for myself? It’s weird.
As I mentioned in the first blog post, I’m not sure I’ll be real active as a blogger. The time I spend writing here is probably better spent on other work, but I will send out the occasional post. If you have ideas for topics or more you’d like to hear about in regard to the book, being an independent author, or anything else related to my writing, just let me know.
For a final insider treat, check out this photograph. A pivotal scene in City of Ghosts takes place in this very spot. Anyone know the location?
